Gun show loop hole and bovine testicles
January 29th, 2010 by Scott

I get so tired of people, mainly the Virginian-Pilot and other media outlets calling this the “gun show loop hole”.  Its not a loop hole.

The bill would have required prospective buyers to undergo an instant criminal background check before buying a firearm from a private seller at a gun show.  -=SOURCE=-

How can the General Assembly write a law that would control the private sale of firearms?  Are they only concerned with the sale while at gun shows?  Come on people.  Private sales are just that.  Private sales.

Let’s, for the sake of discussion, say the General Assembly writes a law that prevents the private sale of firearms at a gun show without the mandated background check.  How easy would it be to circumvent the law?

Buyer:  I am interested in this firearm.
Seller:  It’s 100 dollars.
Buyer:  Ok.  Here’s my business card.  Call me this evening and I’ll buy you a cup of coffee at Staryucks.
Seller:  Very good.  See you tonight.

Law circumvented.

The General Assembly should pay attention to more important legislation.  Like regulating whether I can hang plastic replicas of bull testicles on my pickup truck trailer hitch.

Philip Van Cleave of the VCDL makes this point everytime he speaks at a City Hall meeting or other meeting. Seems most liberal politicians just don’t get it or don’t care. It is just another buzz phrase for them to latch on to in advancing their anti-gun agenda.
