Government orders couple to quit holding Bible Study in their home…
June 2nd, 2009 by Scott

UPDATE:

This may just shape up to be a great constitutional fight.  I would love to hear opinions on both sides of this situation.

Attorney Dean Broyles of The Western Center For Law & Policy was shocked with what happened to the pastor and his wife.

Broyles said, “The county asked, ‘Do you have a regular meeting in your home?’ She said, ‘Yes.’ ‘Do you say amen?’ ‘Yes.’ ‘Do you pray?’ ‘Yes.’ ‘Do you say praise the Lord?’ ‘Yes.’”

The county employee notified the couple that the small Bible study, with an average of 15 people attending, was in violation of County regulations, according to Broyles.   -=SOURCE=-

San Diego County has ordered Pastor David Jones and his wife Mary to STOP holding Bible Studies in their home.  SAY WHAT?

Apparently in San Diego County, you can’t have friends over on a regular basis to eat and pray and talk about the Bible without a permit.  San Diego county is trying to tax and regulate when you can have friends over for a burger and potato chips.  Nice.  NOT.

“On Good Friday we had an employee from San Diego County come to our house, and inform us that the Bible study that we were having was a religious assembly, and in violation of the code in the county.” David Jones told FOX News. -=SOURCE=-

I wonder if my kid’s Friday Night Movie Night with their friends is going to be taxed and regulated too?  Come on San Diego County!  I know, this economy sucks and everyone is tight and looking for every source of revenue they can.  But this is ridiculous.  And illegal.

This is absolutely outrageous and something should be done to stop it!

If this case is as it was presented in the article then the inspectors in that county need a little education in the 1st amendment and might want to do a little reading on RLUIPA. If the inspectors supervisor told them to cite a violation then there is a much bigger problem as they should have known better.
