My new toy…
February 23rd, 2009 by Scott

My wonderful wife bought me this over the weekend.  I have been wanting a new digital SLR for some time.

I have been using Nikon products for 30 years but wanted to change because of the expense.

I looked at Canon and Pentax.

I chose Pentax because of the availability of lenses, the fact that the image stabilization is in the camera body not the lens, (lenses are less expensive) and the long history of Pentax making rock solid camera equipment.  And batteries.  Both the Canon and Nikon cameras in this class use special batteries for the body.  This uses AA batteries.

While I will use 2000 mha or 2100 mha rechargeable batteries, if they run out, more shooting is simply a battery purchase away at Wal Mart or any convenience store.

It feels AWESOME in your hands, weighty but not overly heavy, and while the body is plastic it has a great “heft” to it.  Much more so than the Canons and even Nikons.

Now I’m anxious to get out and shoot some photos!!!

Wow. I’m impressed. You can tell me later what you had to do to earn this. Meanwhile, get out and start shooting!

What was the cost of the general package? I own a Pentax ME from 1978 that is pretty much shot at this time. Obviously I have other cameras including Canon which I like because I didn’t buy the “fancy kind” and it takes regular batteries but I have always liked the Pentax product.
