Prism 0.9 Release and is now a Firefox Extension

Old news but still appropriate.  Read on for more information on Prism.

 

For those of us who wisely use Firefox as a browser, Prism 0.9 has been released as an extension for Firefox.  This basically means you can create a "stand-alone" looking application from just about any RIA (Rich Internet Application) like Gmail, Google Docs and Spreadsheets, Zoho or many others.

As I wrote back in February, Prism allows you to remove the <Back>, <Forward>, address bar and other web browser functions from your chosen RIA and makes it look more like an application that may reside on your desktop.

Now as an extension for Firefox, you can create them from within your browser and place the icon on your desktop.

This is a prototype.  There may be some bugs and glitches in the software.  But so far, it looks good to me!!!  Please note that the Firefox extension is only available for Firefox versions 3.0b1 – 3.0b5pre

Also known as distraction free browsing, removing the various controls from your browser window, Prism is a great asset and time saver.

I am a big fan (as you may have guessed) of RIAs and Open Source software packages.  Prism provides the best of both worlds.
