I was happy to learn last night that Portsmouth City Council did not buckle to Senator Louis Lucas’ high pressure tactics and voted against funding her hotel and conference center project.
Vice Mayor Bill Moody Jr., council members Elizabeth Psimas, Doug Smith and Steve Heretick voted against $38 million in bonds to help finance the project, which Lucas and other investors hoped to build in Victory Village business park.

Senator Lucas has tried everything she could do including suing the very people who elected her to office to get the city council to approve a bond funding for her projects. The funding would have allowed her to proceed with building a hotel and conference center in which she stood to gain millions of dollars in equity as soon as it was built, effectively making money on a personal investment at tax payer’s expense.
Good job City Council! My faith in you is starting to renew!
Now Senator Lucas can go out and raise money like every other business owner has to do instead of getting a free handout from the city.
