PC, politically correct. I hate the term and everything it stands for. “PC” has done more to hamper free speech and expression than anything I can remember in recent history.
But more specifically, this post is about Christmas. UH OH! He said the “C” word.
To listen to some people they equate using the term Merry Christmas to using racially derogatory terms. If that’s the case, they had better start calling it the “C” word. (That ticks me off and is a complete post by itself.)
According to the Family Research Council:
…there is a community threatening to stop Christmas carols from being sung in public places. Why? Because the organizers do not want to risk alienating the Muslims or Atheists due to Christ…

How ridiculous.
My kids watched a movie last night called “Fred Claus”. As goofy a movie as it was, there were some points in it that carried a rather pointed message. The one that comes to mind first is when Fred plops down the chimney and into the dining room of a Jewish family.
What happens next is exactly what should happen anytime people of different beliefs come into an interaction. The Jewish patriarch of the family stood up greeted “Santa” and offered some food to him. No offense. No verbal berating. Just a welcome of someone from a different belief.
That may be just a plain old goofy movie but that particular scene, in my mind is exactly how ALL of us should feel and react when dealing with people of differing belief systems.
Last year, my fellow Jeffersoniad blogger and friend Leslie Carbone, posted an article on Christmas Decorations in Williamsburg, Virginia.
She had this photograph in the post. Notice anything different about it?

Respect. A Christmas decoration while tastefully paying respect to our Jewish brothers and sisters. This photo struck me as awesome last year as it does this year.
So… Merry Christmas!
