I doubt John will remember me, but we met when he covered several fundraisers that the Emerald Society held for fallen cops' families. Nice fella who always tried to get it right.

I, like Scott and Vivian, have had a love/hate with the Pilot for many years, sometimes referring to it as, "The Virginian-Pravda," but I hate to see it slowly pass-away. As John points-out, without the paper, important stuff goes unreported. Since retiring from law enforcement, I have become a bit more mellow in my rantings about the Pilot (I'm sure it's that they've gotten better, and not that I have become less stressed-out
;-)
), and they usually print my letters when a rant comes along (albeit heavily edited, since only the editorial staff can bloviate).

Count me in on the beer (although I'll have to do Irish whisky, since I can't ingest carbonation anymore).

Wow. I read thru John's post. Hartig's retirement isn't really a surprise - he's been talking about it for a while. But I didn't realize the axe on others was on its way. The Pilot may be a rag but it's our rag!

And if you guys are going out to drink beer, I wanna go, too :)

Vivian J Paige’s last blog post..Women’s Legislative Roundtable Dec 3

Yeah yeah yeah. I know you thought you were. But that's ok.

My opinion of the Pilot is as wishy washy as the wind and usually based on which column or article I read.

The Pilot is and always has been a good viable (if biased...) news source. I don't want now nor ever have wanted it to go away.

I have friends that work there, or, have worked there. Reporters, editorialists, photographers...

If the heart of a newspaper could be judged simply on the heart of the people who worked there, the Pilot would have a heart of gold.

Thanks for stopping by John... we really do need to go drink a beer some evening. You name it. I'll adjust and be there.

Nice Post. (You disagreed with me? I was always right.) Please keep on this. Somebody needs to cover it. Hope to see you soon. Whatever you think of The Pilot, a lot of stuff will go unreported without them. John.
