People wait in long lines… In the rain
November 4th, 2008 by Scott

In Chesapeake, Virginia, folks started lining up at the polls at 2:30AM. I have been in line since 06:50 or so waiting to cast my ballot.

While I believe all elections are important, and it is an obligation for Americans to vote, this election carries with it the added weight of being historic.

Historic because of Barack Obama. The first viable black candidate nominated by a major party. And Sarah Palin. The first viable (in my opinion) female vice presidential candidate.

While I can appreciate the historic nature of this election, it does raise an amount of concern. I am concerned because I know for a fact that people are voting along racial and gender lines. They are making a decision that affects the entire country for at least the next 4 years, based on some perceived obligation to support one candidate or another.

Folks, that is the WORST reason to support a candidate. I can only hope that sensible voters will prevail and offset the emotional vote with good solid thoughts, and opinions, based on facts and policies not the particular “line” some have drawn on the ballot.

You know for a fact? Really? I don’t think so and while polls lie, people are crossing the race issue.

So what you, in your infinite wisdom are saying is that absolutely no one who will be voting today will be doing so based on gender/race? Don’t be such an idiot. Of course they are.

Are ALL people voting along racial/gender lines? Of course not. I might even go so far as to say that the MAJORITY of votes will not fall into this category.

But I was told, in line just this morning, by the person in front of me, that she was voting McCain/Palin because she wants to see a woman make it to the Vice Presidency.

Somehow, based on your comment and link you placed in the comment form (removed), I think you are just trolling for hits on your site.

Sorry you had to wait in a line so long. The line at my voting station was 50% higher than any other time I have ever been there. Normally there are two voters present when I am there (me and my wife). This time we had to actually wait for one person ahead of us!!! Geez, that just consumed our entire day waiting for another voter ahead of us. Well, as we were leaving one other person came in. Ok, ok, so there are 375 registered voters in my precinct, that is why I moved out to the country anyway. :)
