World’s Toughest Foot Race, and Cliff Young
August 1st, 2008 by Scott
An Aside – As some of you know, my wonderful wife is training for a 1/2 marathon race in Disney (Florida) on March 9th of next year.  She has some obstacles she needs to overcome to get ready but is steady moving forward.  Attacking the training on several different fronts, endurance, muscle strength and over all body weight she is relentless in her training.  And to be honest, I get a little selfish every now and then wondering when she is going to spend some time just chillin’ out with me.  But then I see her face when she reaches a goal, or has a measured and attained success and all I want to do is cheer for her!
Last night was one of those nights when she had a weight check and had dropped a significant amount, then came home dressed out and went to the gym.  This routine started at 5:00PM and she finally got home about 10:30PM or so.  She does this and keeps this family fed, watered and taken care of.  Katie is my “Super Woman”!!!

Cliff Young was 61 years old when he ran his first race, in what is billed as one of the toughest races on earth.

A 543.7 mile endurance race from Sydney to Melbourne Australia.  The race is run over a 5 day period and is usually competed in by world class athletes who train for months or even years for the event.  Most are backed by giant sports outfits like Nike or Reebok.  Did I mention that most of the competitors are less than 30 years old?

Then comes Cliff Young.

In 1983, a man named Cliff Young showed up at the start of this race. Cliff was 61 years old and wore overalls and work boots. To everyone’s shock, Cliff wasn’t a spectator. He picked up his race number and joined the other runners.

Read the story HERE.   If you need inspiration for your training (I know I do but I don’t run unless something is chasing me).

Even if you aren’t a runner (did I mention I don’t run unless something is chasing me???) its a great read and inspiring!
