The #dontgo movement, setting the record straight, funding and principles
August 10th, 2008 by Scott

The #dontgo Movement Key Individuals - #dontgo Movement_1218399532953 Based on a couple of notes from Eric Odom and some conversations I’ve had with folks, there seems to be a big misunderstanding about #dontgomovement.com and it’s funding sources.

Eric took some time this afternoon to list out the principles in the effort and included all of our funding sources and budget drafts.

It appears that some on the anti-free-market side of the political realm are having a very difficult time believing that a true grassroots effort is behind the #dontgo Movement. Over the past week I have received a plethora of e-mails demanding that I be more transparent in the funding for this site and the #dontgo movement in general. While I do not feel that I need to be transparent about anything regarding my personal life, I guess its best to state what I thought was the obvious to make sure that everyone understands what #dontgo Movement really is.  -=SOURCE=-

As you can see by Eric’s article, we are in fact a true grassroots organization.  Eric and Allen put out a call for help, folks responded and the #dontgo Movement was formed.

Sorry to disappoint the lefties that want to believe otherwise, but #dontgo Movement is not funded by “Big Oil”, nor a political party.  The sum total of our expenditures to date are $40 and that was expended entirely by Eric out of his own pocket. (Eric, if you want me to send you some $$ to help cover that $40 let me know.)

The two #dongo Gear Stores (http://www.cafepress.com/dontgo and http://www.cafepress.com/dontgomovement) are selling items at Cafe Press’ default cost.  There is no money being made there either.  If you want to verify, set up your own store and look at the prices.

At one point I was called a “social media marketeer” and an “opportunist” for my participation in this movement.

On the contrary.  This movement has netted me nothing other than the pure satisfaction of taking a thought, Eric and Allen’s, helping, and then watching the movement make big waves.

A couple of hours of lost sleep (ok, more than a couple) is my total investment.  My return?  Satisfaction and watching folks scramble, speculate and posture in response.

What we have here is simply some tech savvy conservatives, who have leveraged Web 2.0 technologies to rally like minded people around the country!  Amazing eh?  Oh, and the folks that are listed?  Are just the tip of the iceberg.  There numerous others who have come on board, assisted with opinion, advice, technical know how and sound political judgement.

Standby though…  the best is yet to come!!!
