OFFICER DOWN – Virginia Beach Police Officer gunned down

Virginia Beach Police Detective Michael Smith Phillips died in the line of duty today. Detective Phillips leaves behind a wife and two sons ages 12 and 8. Please keep Detective Smith’s family and police family in your prayers as we honor this hero.
There is little information officially coming from the Virginia Beach Police Department, some can be found in the Virginian-Pilot.
The Police Detective was gunned down in an area that when I lived there we called “Gang Run”. I don’t know if it still has the same distinction.

Father in Heaven, I thank You for the honorable service this man gave to his community and his country. I thank You for all the men and women who hold the line against evil. I pray, Father, that You will watch over his family, that You will comfort his widow and his children.
Lord God Almighty, You are the Father of us all, and this family needs to know that You are their Father, who will love and guide and provide for them. Please bless them with the love and hugs and support of their church and community so they can see Your love.
Father, You know the end from the beginning, and You can work all things together to bring glory to You and good to Your children. I ask that You work in this family so that they know Your grace and mercy and love, and so they rejoice in proclaiming it to the world.
Receive this officer into Your hands; bless him with Your welcome; and let this brave man rest in Your assurance that You will nurture his family.
