Internet censorship plagues journalists at Olympics
July 31st, 2008 by Scott

Not that this is any surprise, at least to me.  But this is what I find infuriating:

When Chinese officials were bidding for the right to hold the games seven years ago, they assured international organizers that there would be ”complete freedom to report.” In April, Chinese organizers told International Olympic Committee members that Internet censorship, which is routine for China’s citizens, would be lifted for journalists during the games.  -=SOURCE=-

Yet it appears this is not the case.  Journalists are finding they can not reach out to sites they would normally need to access doing their job.  Sites like Amnesty International and any site with the name “Tibet” in it are blocked completely.

I saw a digital poster the other day with the slogan “Would we let Nazi Germany host the Olympics?”

We might as well.  We’re letting Communist China host them.

yea, but didn’t Nazi Germany host the Olympics? I seem to remember something about American pride in an African American runner that went over there and showed hitler his master race sucked. or something like that.

Hi, Scott! It was nice to meet you earlier this evening. We need to push for a vote on H.R. 275 before the Olympics.
